A chance encounter between Christian Dior and a metal star on the road marked the beginning of his fashion house’s legacy. A deeply superstitious Dior stumbled upon the star while en route to meet Marcel Boussac, who had agreed to finance a fashion house in his name. This fortuitous moment was cosmic confirmation for Dior, inspiring him to pursue his true calling in designing haute couture for women.
Throughout his life, Dior kept good luck charms on him such as the lily of the valley, four-leaf clover, a piece of wood, and the iconic star. Each of these lucky symbols have been reinterpreted by Dior’s creative directors and infused into their designs.
The classic Lady Dior bag, famously named for Princess Diana, demonstrates the combination of luxury craftsmanship and good luck. Delicate “D.I.O.R.” charms adorn each handbag, with many special editions featuring Dior’s beloved lucky symbols. For example, a metal star is often included in the charm stack, while the four-leaf clover was given a special spotlight on the Mini Lady Dior in 2018.
In 2017, Dior introduced a twist on this classic silhouette aptly titled the My ABCDior Bag.
